Mahmoud Ahmadinejad received a hostile reception when he made an unannounced visit to a university in northern Tehran yesterday. Students chanting "Ahmadinejad, the liar is our guest today," and "you are sucking the blood from our country" gathered to protest the Iranian president's presence, and clashed with security forces, CNN reports.

The protests followed the execution of 5 Kurds who were accused of terrorist activity. The regime's critics say the 4 men and woman were innocent and that the executions were an effort to deter more protests ahead of the June 12 anniversary of last year's disputed election. "A regime which relates earthquakes to the way women dress has no credibility when it tries to link civilian activists to bombings," a spokesman for the Kurdish Democratic Party told the Guardian.
