McQueen High on Cocaine Before Suicide

Alexander McQueen was high on cocaine, sleeping pills, and tranquilizers before he hanged himself, the inquest into his death heard today. The Westminster coroner said the 40-year-old fashion designer “killed himself while the balance of his mind was disturbed,” adding that he had “a history of self-harm and, no doubt fueled by cocaine, he resorted to desperate measures to end his life," the Mirror reports.

McQueen’s psychiatrist told the inquest his patient had a history of anxiety and depression, and that though successful, his work “was a double-edged sword” because “after a show he felt a huge comedown. He felt isolated, it gave him a huge low.” McQueen attempted two drug overdoses last year, the psychiatrist added, calling them “cries for help.”
