Arizona Boycott Targets Baseball, Tourism

People opposed to Arizona's tough new immigration law should stay away from Diamondbacks games and the Grand Canyon, say organizers of a national boycott of the controversial state. Tourists are being urged to avoid Arizona, and business groups are being told they should hold their conventions elsewhere, Reuters reports. The Arizona Hotel and Lodging Association says 6 conventions—including one for immigration lawyers—have already been canceled.

City officials in San Francisco have joined calls for an Arizona boycott, noting that similar pressure persuaded the state to make Martin Luther King Day a holiday. Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer said she is "disappointed" by calls for a boycott of her state. "They are only depriving the legal residents of Arizona when they do that," she told the Arizona Republic.
