One of the best-known members of the legendary Spanish bullfighting community was severely gored during a performance yesterday and is in serious condition in a Mexican hospital. Jose Tomas sustained a torn vein and artery when an 1,100-pound bull's left horn drove 4 inches deep into his groin, the BBC reports. Tomas, 34, was operated on at the scene before being moved to the hospital. He needed 17 pints of blood and has not regained consciousness, the AP reports. The announcer at the ring in Aguascalientes appealed for fans in the crowd who share his rare blood type, A-negative, to donate blood.
