Sex Pistols Manager Dead

British music personality Malcolm McClaren, who managed the Sex Pistols and helped define the '70s punk rock movement, has died of cancer at age 64. In the mid-'70s, McLaren was running a clothing boutique, which he'd renamed from "Let It Rock" to "Sex," when he became aware of a band called the Strand. He renamed it The Sex Pistols after becoming its manager.

McLaren was the mind behind many of the band's stunts—like when it played on a boat on the Thames for the "enjoyment" of Parliament. That, along with their raw, in-your-face sound and lyrics, catapulted the band to the forefront of a rock revolution. McLaren also managed Bow Wow Wow and the New York Dolls, CNN reports.
