Democratic leaders are said to be in a full-court press on Bart Stupak again, this time trying to convince him not to retire from Congress. After MSNBC's First Read blog reported this morning that Stupak is "exhausted" after the abortion/health care fight, his office did little to squelch the rumor that he might step down, notes the Hill.

"Every two years, Congressman Stupak discusses with his family and his constituents whether to seek reelection," said a statement. "This year is no different." It noted, however, that he's got the required signatures to run again. Democrats are especially worried because Republicans would stand a good chance of winning the seat if Stupak leaves.
