Put on the condom already, porn industry, writes Kent Sepkowitz. Sheathing up will be a positive public health move, and could even humanize actors we can’t seem to consider as the same species as us. California is considering a request to force the industry to rubber up in the name of worker safety, but the benefit could be much more widespread.

First, there’s “the off chance that some viewer, somewhere may absorb the message about safe sex,” Sepkowitz writes at Slate. “A teachable moment, the ultimate example of monkey-see, monkey-do.” And we would be better off if porn stars acted like the rest of us, and weren’t considered “room-temperature mannequins without thought, motivation, introspection, or sore feet.”
