Fellow Republicans Turn on Jim Bunning

Senate Republicans are breaking ranks as Jim Bunning continues to stall a $10 billion employment and health measure, with Susan Collins of Maine taking to the floor of the chamber this morning to express her "hope that we can act together for the American people." She urged Bunning to drop his objection to the measure; the lame duck replied, "I object."

"It’s important that the American people understand that there is bipartisan support for extending these vital programs," Collins told reporters. "This is not a partisan issue." Democrat Harry Reid has led the opposition to Bunning, who has held up the 30-day extension for nearly a week, and they sparred again today. "His point has been made," Reid said.
