A Blackwater subsidiary operating in Afghanistan hired violent drug addicts to train Afghan forces and seized hundreds of guns intended for the Afghan police, a Senate panel has found. The probe, which criticized the US Army for turning a blind eye to Blackwater abuses, found that in one incident a US officer signed over hundreds of AK-47s intended for Afghan forces to an individual from Blackwater's Counter Narcotics Training Unit who signed for them as "Eric Cartman."
The guns were never recovered and Blackwater says it has never had an employee with the same name as the obnoxious South Park character. The Senate Armed Services Committee probe found that the firm's disregard for regulations on contractors carrying firearms caused the deaths of Afghan civilians and increased anti-Western sentiment, the AP reports.
