Joe Stack’s daughter says that though his suicide attack on the Austin IRS office was “inappropriate,” she agrees with his anti-government stance. Asked if she considered him a hero, Samantha Bell told ABC, “Yes, because now maybe people will listen.” She believes he burned his house down for political reasons, too. “We pay taxes on our home as well, and my belief is that the house was part of the government and I think he wanted to get rid of what was left.”

She added that Stack was a “loving, devoted” man, who gave “zero signs” of such violent rage. “This man who did this was not my father.” She says she feels “guilty to be mourning my father” because of the others harmed by his actions, calling Vernon Hunter, the man Stack killed, a “wonderful man.” But her comments annoyed Hunter’s son, Ken. “My dad did two tours of duty in Vietnam,” he said. “My dad’s a hero.” (More Joe Stack stories.)
