Tiger Woods finally went in front of the cameras to deliver a public apology today, in his first public appearance since his sex scandal broke in November. “I am deeply sorry for my irresponsible and selfish behavior,” Woods told an audience of about 40 people at the TPC Sawgrass golf course. “I was unfaithful. I had affairs. I cheated. What I did is not acceptable. I owe it to my family to become a better person." He said he'd eventually return to golf, but couldn't say when.

Woods’ mother was on hand for the event, but Elin Nordegren was not. Woods said he and his wife had “started the process of discussing” the damage his marriage had caused, but “as Elin pointed out to me my real apology to her will not come in the form of words. It will come from my behavior.” (More Tiger Woods apology stories.)
