New for BlackBerry: Kindle App
The BlackBerry devices compatible with the new Kindle app.   (Amazon)

BlackBerry users no longer have to look longingly at others reading e-books on their Kindles or iPhones, as Amazon today released an e-reader app for their device. After the iPhone app launched last year, an exec tells CNET, “customers have been asking us to bring a similar experience to the BlackBerry.” The company has plans to offer a Kindle app for the Apple iPad soon, but no word on one for Android devices.

Like Kindle apps for other mobile devices, the BlackBerry program allows users to browse Amazon’s online catalog, preview books before purchasing, and synchronize progress with copies on other devices. Unlike with the regular Kindle, the iPhone, and the iPod Touch, BlackBerry users cannot annotate their copies. The app works on various Bold, Curve, Storm, and Tour models. (More e-books stories.)
