Tim Tebow Super Bowl Ad: That's It?

Focus on the Family wins by going understated

After weeks of hype, controversy, and speculation over what it would entail, the actual Focus on the Family ad featuring Tim Tebow was discreet, lighthearted, and rather anticlimactic. That didn't appease the National Organization for Women, however, whose president simply turned focus from the (missing) pro-life propaganda to Tebow's playful tackle of his mother, the Los Angeles Times reports. "I am blown away at the celebration of the violence against women in it," she says.

Indeed, Focus on the Family got the last laugh by generating so much publicity pre-Super Bowl, writes David Gibson at Politics Daily. "Without any frame of reference, the spot could have been a pitch for osteoporosis medication or the need for universal health care or a reminder not to forget Mother's Day," he writes. "But everyone knew what the ad was about and the ad didn't have to say anything directly"—as opposed to the "woefully flat-footed counter ad" Planned Parenthood released before the game.
