Dreamgirls star Jennifer Hudson is joining the cast of Sex and the City: The Movie as Carrie Bradshaw's assistant, reports Variety. The Oscar-winning actress and former "American Idol" contestant is set to begin filming this month in New York with the stars of the TV series, which ended in 2004.

The movie will pick up 4 years after the TV show left off. Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon, and Chris North will reprise their roles, and series executive producer Michael Patrick King is on board as writer and director. Hudson recently finished work on Winged Creatures, which is scheduled for release next year. (More celebrity stories.)
