Gangs, Race, and More Limbaugh NFL Slams

Al Sharpton has urged the NFL to block Rush Limbaugh's purchase of the St. Louis Rams, calling him “anti-NFL.” Sharpton was particularly disturbed, Politico reports, by a “recent statement that the NFL was beginning to look like a fight between the Crips and the Bloods without the weapons.” Really? There are so many others:

• No one is likely to forget when Rush discussed Donovan McNabb back in 2003: "The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well...He got a lot of credit for the performance of this team that he didn't deserve."

• Limbaugh's problems with McNabb's team are not confined to media bias, as when he referred to "the team that claimed to be the Philadelphia Eagles wearing those Girl Scout uniforms" in 2007.
• Earlier this year, Limbaugh had the Steelers playing a gang alliance: "They're up next against the Crips and the Bloods, the Baltimore Ravens...The Steelers have become bird exterminators now."
• Rush was still going on about his 2003 comments in 2007: "If 100 percent of the players in the National Football League were black, the sports media would still treat them as though they just escaped bondage and, in fact, are still in it."
