Microsoft Apologizes for Racial Photoshopping

Microsoft has apologized after eagle-eyed Twitter users and bloggers noticed it swapped a white head onto the body of a black model in an image for its website in Poland. The image on Microsoft’s US homepage, captioned “Empower your people,” shows a white woman, a black man, and an Asian man. But on the Polish page, the black man’s head is swapped out, reports CNET.

Whoever edited the image didn’t do a very good job, however—the man’s hand remained black. “We apologize and are in the process of pulling down the image,” Microsoft told CNET. It also apologized on its official Twitter feed. As of this writing, the Polish site has been updated with the original, US version of the photo. (More Microsoft stories.)
