After chalking up an eight-run lead and then watching it dwindle, the Diamondbacks held on to win 8-7 and move back ahead of San Diego in the NL West. D'backs closer Jose Valverde gave up a solo homer to Milton Bradley in the ninth before striking out two Padres to end the game and earn his 41st save of the season, reports the Arizona Republic.

Arizona starter Doug Davis gave up three runs in the seventh inning after holding San Diego scoreless through the sixth, and ended up with the win. Rookie Mark Reynolds stood out among the D'backs bats, with three hits and five RBI, including a two-out, two-run home run that put Arizona on the board in the second.
