GOP Sen. Slams Prez's Town Hall 'Shout-Out'

At yesterday's town hall, President Obama cited health care reform backing from a Republican senator—giving a shout-out to Georgia's Johnny Isakson—and the lawmaker is none too pleased, Politico reports. Obama said Isakson sponsored voluntary end-of-life counseling measures, prompting Isakson’s office to assert that he “vehemently opposes the House and Senate health care bills” and “played no role” in the plan.

However, Isakson did back a Senate health committee amendment offering living will and power of attorney counseling to “anyone who participates in a long-term health benefit,” writes Glenn Thrush. His office says that amendment was about letting patients get help with such concerns, not “calling for the government to incentivize doctors by offering them money to conduct end-of-life counseling.”
