In what was either a miracle or a grievous hospital error, a Paraguayan man found his baby son alive inside his coffin hours after he was pronounced dead, the Daily Telegraph reports. Jose Alvarenga was told that his prematurely born son had died shortly after birth, and the coffin was delivered to his home four hours later.
“I opened it to look at his remains,” he recalls, “and found that the baby was breathing. I began to cry.” He rushed the still unnamed baby back to the hospital, where he was placed in an oxygen chamber. Doctors expect him to pull through, calling his condition stable. “This is a very unusual case,” says one pediatrician there, speculating that a doctor must have checked the infant’s vital signs improperly.
