Television is still churning out Michael Jackson-related content, but Web surfers quickly lost interest after his death, Jeff Jarvis writes for BuzzMachine. “We had consuming interest in Jackson when the news came out but that quickly faded,” Jarvis writes, citing Blogpulse and Google Trends data on Jackson traffic. “Yet cable news and the network morning shows especially are still ODing on MJ.”
Jarvis has a theory about wall-to-wall Jackson TV coverage: “If one is doing it, all do it until the first one has the courage to break off; it’s peer pressure.” But on the more democratic, user-dominated Internet, trends die off organically. MJ is off Twitter Trends' home page, and only one related video is in the top 10 on YouTube. “Out here,” Jarvis writes, “it doesn’t take us long to get sick of their obsessions.” (More Michael Jackson stories.)
