There will be no public memorial for Michael Jackson at the Neverland Ranch this week, the AP reports. Previous reports had said that a viewing would be held Friday at the Santa Barbara estate, but a source close to the family says nothing is planned. Instead, there will likely be a funeral and burial in Los Angeles.

Regardless of where a memorial is held, Jackson can’t be buried at Neverland Ranch because of legal restrictions that bar burials at private residences, the LA Times reports. Besides that hurdle, officials say they worried about the impact of having thousands of cars ascend the narrow mountain road to the ranch. Jackson’s family has the final say on any funeral arrangements.
