Macho men caused this recession, and they’re going to pay the price: for the first time in history, they’ll cease to be the dominant force in society, writes Reihan Salam in Foreign Policy. Signs of the turning tide can already be seen in the US, as male-dominated industries like construction get hit hardest by the “he-cession,” and stimulus money goes to female-dominated health care and education.
“As women start to gain more of the social, economic, and political power they have long been denied, it will be nothing less than a full-scale revolution the likes of which human civilization has never experienced,” Salam writes. But macho men aren’t going to give up their top-dog status easily, and the shift could be “wrenching, uneven, and possibly very violent”—though most of the battle will be “in hearts and minds.” (More alpha male stories.)
