Dutch scientists say they've built a better tomato, ABC News reports. The “Intense” variety is being heralded as “leak-proof” and an end to soggy sandwiches by Tesco, the British supermarket chain that will sell it. The tomato—the result of a Dutch seed-breeding program—leaks virtually none of its juices into bread. The variety will eventually be introduced into the US market via Mexico.

Gripes the restaurant critic of the Daily Telegraph: "I'd be even more impressed if Tesco redeployed its army of scientists into discovering how to grow more food with less chemicals and fewer air miles. These tomatoes are imported from Holland—how is that an advance?" (More tomatoes stories.)
