General Motors hopes to muscle its way back from the brink of bankruptcy by reintroducing the Chevrolet Camaro, a macho stud-machine that is flexed to impress, Joseph Szczesny writes in Time. “The new Camaro goes well beyond the old-fashioned ‘Detroit iron’ of the 1960s and '70s,” writes Szczesny, who test-drove the growler and praises its blend of brains and brawn.

The updated butch-car, which sports independent rear-suspension and a “comfortable interior,” can be outfitted with an old-fashioned V8 engine or a modern, fuel-efficient V6. It could also herald a brighter future for beleaguered GM, which already has 14,000 orders and plans more sales in 20 countries. “They could present it as all that is right about Detroit and its cars,” said an analyst.
