Maria Sharapova's flagging luck improved at the Acura Classic Sunday, where she took the tournament with a 3-set victory over Switzerland's Patty Schynder. Sharapova was on point and played aggressively, painting the lines with sharp forehands and backhands. "She went for those shots and she got it," Schynder said. "She really deserved to win."

The Russian phenom will stay #2 in the world, lagging behind Grand Slam impresaria Justine Henin. Sharapova's successful title defense was also the final Acura Classic: After 24 years in the San Diego area, promoters have sold the tour rights back to the Women's Tennis Association, who plan to move.  (More Maria Sharapova stories.)
