A Washington woman received an added bonus when she bought a used couch from a thrift store: a calico cat, the Spokesman Review reports. Callie lived in Vickie Mendenhall’s house for a few days, during which Mendenhall and her family would occasionally hear faint meowing. It turned out the cat had hidden in the couch before her former owner donated it.

Callie and her owner, Spokane native Bob Killion, were reunited after the Mendenhalls discovered her and alerted local media. “When we got her out,” Mendenhall said of Callie, who was hungry and dehydrated after being trapped for about two weeks, “she was giving me that look: ‘Thanks for getting me out of there.’” (More cat stories.)
