Louisiana GOP Senator David Vitter will meet a substantial opponent in his 2010 bid for re-election: porn star Stormy Daniels, CNN reports. A grass-roots “Draft Stormy” campaign, unaffiliated with the state’s Democratic Party, has encouraged the buxom blond to run on a platform of the economy, women’s issues, and child safety. The push is shining the light back on Vitter’s 2007 prostitution scandal.
Dismissing Daniels' run, state Republicans said voters aren’t interested in “political or publicity stunts." The entertainer countered that she is “always up for a good fight. Politics can't be any dirtier of a job than the one I am already in.” One watcher said Vitter was a tough candidate. “You are going to need someone better than a porn star or a lap dancer or a sex worker to nail David Vitter on this,” he said of Vitter’s history with the DC madam.
