Bill Clinton is one of the possible choices to replace Hillary Clinton in the Senate when she becomes secretary of state, CNN reports. Other top contenders include New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, Robert Kennedy Jr, or Caroline Kennedy. New York Gov. David Paterson, who will appoint Clinton’s replacement, has yet to indicate any favorites.

Although supporters of the former president argue that he’s more than qualified for the job, some observers counter that he may be too qualified to be interested in becoming a junior senator. And ultimately Clinton may lack the most basic credentials. "Paterson has said he would prefer someone from upstate New York,” notes one analyst, “or a woman or a Hispanic candidate.”
