Trump Gets His Scottish Golf Resort

Donald Trump got the green light for his $1.6 billion Aberdeenshire golf resort yesterday, much to the chagrin of environmental groups, the Times of London reports. Though it was rejected by the Aberdeenshire council last year, First Minister Alex Salmond approved the project after a public inquiry. Salmond said the development would create 6,000 jobs and bring $100 million into Aberdeenshire annually.

Environmentalists are particularly upset that the Donald made no attempt to preserve an area of the coastline that is a protected natural area. Trump rejected plans proposed by a Scottish lobbying group that incorporated the protected area into the resort. “The crazy thing is that there could easily have been both golf and environmental protection,” the head of the Scottish Wildlife Trust said.
