Parker Gets the Dixie Chick Treatment After Dissing Palin

After Kathleen Parker wrote a column suggesting Sarah Palin step down, the long-time conservative got an inbox full of nasty messages accusing her of treason against the GOP. This week, she worries in the Washington Post about the “bleak future” such vitriol suggests. In a hyper-partisan America, “anyone who dares express an opinion that runs counter to the party line will be silenced.”

“That doesn't sound American to me, but Stalin would approve,” she writes. Parker contends that the reaction to her column isn’t really about her or Palin. “The mailbag is about us, our country, and what we really believe.” Given the “enormous challenges” the country is facing, she urges “a cease-fire in the war against unwelcome ideas.”
