Drinkers Sour on Sarah Syrah
A San Francisco wine bar has seen this organically grown Chilean red drop off its best-seller list since Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin joined the presidential campaign.   (North Berkeley Imports)

A San Francisco wine bar says customers have soured on its star vintage since John McCain picked his running mate, Amy Monroe writes on Serious Eats. Palin Syrah, an organically grown red from Chile “was our best-selling wine before” Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin arrived, laments Chris Tavelli, owner of Yield Wine Bar.

The Palin (pronounced pay-LEEN) wine does draw lots of comments in the famously liberal outpost— “One Yield regular suggested that Tavelli amend the wine’s tasting note to read: moosemeat, salmon, hint of gunpowder,” Monroe writes. Will Tavelli keep it on the menu? “I don’t know. I guess it depends on how the election goes.”
