Although Robert Novak has antagonized many in Washington, that hasn’t stopped the political columnist's targets from encouraging him as he battles brain cancer. “I have had few good things to say about Teddy Kennedy since I first met him,” Novak admits in a syndicated column distributed today, yet his fellow cancer patient and his wife "have treated me like a close friend."

Novak discusses his treatment regimen and says a tumor contributed to the hit-and-run accident he was involved in just before his diagnosis. He also settles a score with Valerie and Joe Wilson. The outed spy and her ex-ambassador husband recommended taking away his typewriter and car keys. Novak won’t be able to drive again, but he warns, “Taking away my typewriter may require modification of the First Amendment.” (More Robert Novak stories.)
