Madeleine McCann may have been abducted by a Belgian pedophile ring, according to recently released police files. British police sent an email to their Portuguese counterparts in March, detailing a tip they’d received from an anonymous source, the Telegraph reports. The tip said the Belgian ring had agreed to nab Maddy after someone in Portugal took a picture of the 3-year-old.

A call went out for a young girl 3 days before Maddie’s disappearance, the email says. But after investigating the lead with Interpol, Portugese police ruled it out for “lack of credibility,” the Guardian notes. Since then the case has been closed, but the McCanns say their private investigators will look into the tip. (More Madeleine McCann stories.)
