A dispute over etiquette turned fatal in New York City last month, and on Friday, police said they arrested the suspect in the incident. It started in a Brooklyn smoke shop around 11:30pm on Sept. 20, NBC News reports. Joan Nunez, 37, held the door open for Edwin Pedroza, 42. Police say Nunez chided Pedroza for not saying thank you, which led to a verbal dispute between the two. An employee of the store tells ABC 7 Pedroza responded, "I didn't tell you to open the door for me." The argument turned into a physical altercation, with surveillance video appearing to show Pedroza pushing Nunez up against a wall at one point while Nunez holds up his hands.

The two eventually took it outside and it got more serious. Police say Pedroza eventually pulled a knife and stabbed Nunez in the neck and abdomen before fleeing the scene on an e-bike. Nunez stumbled back into the shop, bleeding, and died after being rushed to a hospital. Police asked the public for tips and Pedroza was identified as the suspect soon after the homicide, the New York Post reports; he was ultimately arrested Friday and charged with manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.
