Details have emerged regarding a settlement between Bill Murray and a young female production assistant who accused the 72-year-old actor of "inappropriate behavior" on a film set earlier this year. According to the Guardian, Murray paid "about $100,000" in return for the unnamed woman’s confidentiality and waiver of legal claims against Searchlight Pictures and its owner, Disney. The incident occurred in April on the set of Being Mortal. While most details remain shrouded in confidentiality, a report from Puck News alleges Murray straddled the young woman in "close proximity" to a bed on the set and kissed her on the mouth, although both were wearing masks due to COVID protocols.

Murray said he was only being "jestful," but the woman was reportedly "horrified" by the incident and filed an official complaint, along with another crew member who witnessed it. The film suspended production soon after, and Murray admitted in a CNBC interview that his behavior was the cause. He blamed the matter on a "difference of opinion," saying, "I did something I thought was funny and it wasn’t taken that way." The report comes days after actress Geena Davis described a "bad" experience with Murray in 1990 on the set of Quick Change.

In an interview with the Times of London, Davis described a meeting in which Murray "insisted" on using a massage device on her. "The way he behaved … I should have walked out of that or profoundly defended myself, in which case I wouldn't have got the part," Davis told the Times. She also said Murray screamed at her on set, per the Huff Post, which notes that Aziz Ansari—the director of Being Mortal—had his own #MeToo scandal in 2019. There is no word on plans to resume production, but according to the Guardian, the film could be canceled or reshot, as happened when Louis CK was replaced on Secret Life of Pets or Kevin Spacey was dropped from All the Money in the World.
