Kanye West is back in headlines this week, after making an appearance at Paris Fashion Week sporting a "White Lives Matter" shirt that immediately drew backlash. On Thursday night, the 45-year-old rapper and fashion designer showed up on Tucker Carlson's Fox program, and he had a lot to say about that hubbub, plus a whole lot more. The second part of their interview is set to air Friday at 8pm ET. Some notable quotes:

  • "White Lives Matter" controversy: "The answer to why I wrote 'White Lives Matter' on a shirt is because they do. It's the obvious thing," he told Carlson, per People. Ye also noted that someone had called him the previous night "and said, 'Anybody wearing a White Lives Matter shirt is gonna be greenlit,' and that means that they're gonna beat 'em up if they wear it. And I'm like, 'You know, OK, greenlight me then.'"

  • Supporting Trump: On a related note, Ye noted that getting behind the former president and wearing a "Make America Great Again" hat spurred death threats, and warnings from those around him: "I liked him. And every single person in Hollywood, from my ex-wife to my mother-in-law, to my manager at that time, to ... my so-called friends/handlers around me, told me, like, if I said that I like Trump, that my career would be over, that my life would be over."
  • That ultrasound photo around his neck: Carlson wanted to know why West wore it, attached to a lanyard. "It just represents life. I'm pro-life," West replied, adding he didn't care what people thought of it, per Deadline.
  • On the media: "We are in a battle with the media. Like, the majority of the media has a godless agenda. ... They've also watched travesties happen, just even specifically to me, and just watch it and act like it wasn't happening. And they stay quiet about it."
  • On ... Lizzo? Kanye said whenever the singer notes she's losing weight, "bots" go after her, and he knows why. "It's a genocide of the Black race," he insisted, claiming that the media is trying to promote an unhealthy lifestyle for Black people, per TMZ.
  • On his ex, Kim Kardashian: "Kim is a Christian, but she has people who want her to go to Interview magazine and put her ass out, while she's a 40-something-year-old multibillionaire with four Black children. And this is how fashion [wants] to present her."
