Six people—all of them adults—were injured in a shooting Wednesday at an Oakland, California, complex that houses multiple schools, authorities say. Witnesses said a car pulled up outside the campus, then three men got out and opened fire, CBS Los Angeles reports. Highland Hospital in Oakland said it is treating three victims who arrived in critical condition with gunshot wounds, reports NBC Bay Area. Three others were taken to a different hospital. Police say the shooters fled the scene. No arrests have been announced. It's not clear whether the victims were students over 18 years old.
The Oakland Unified School Disrict said the site houses Rudsdale Continuation and Newcomer high schools and BayTech Charter School. It is also the headquarters of Sojourner Truth Independent Study, which has no students at the site, the district said. The violence "shocks the soul—our schools are sanctuaries for our children," Mayor Libby Schaaf tweeted. City Council member Treva Reid said investigators told her the shooting might be linked to "group and gang violence," the AP reports. (More Oakland stories.)
