Socialist candidate tosses out partner over affair, plans to pursue his job

Segolene Royal, the glamorous Socialist candidate who made a failed run at the French presidency, announced today that she's splitting with her partner of 28 years and the father of her four children, Francois Hollande. The cause of the rift, which has been rumored for months: his "love story" with another woman.

Hollande, the Socialist party leader, has been linked a political journalist for Paris Match magazine; a book including details of the affair was about to be released, the Times reports.  Not only did Royal kick him out of the family home; she's gearing up for a run at his position at the helm of the party.
