Target is bailing from one aspect of the holiday shopping rush: Its stores will be closed on Thanksgiving—not just this year, but on all Thanksgivings going forward, reports MarketWatch. The shift can be chalked up to the pandemic: The chain chose to close last Thanksgiving, and it also spread out holiday sales to try to keep crowds down on Black Friday, notes the AP. "What started as a temporary measure driven by the pandemic is now our new standard," Target chief executive Brian Cornell said in a statement. Most Target stories reopen at 7am the following day for Black Friday. Rival Walmart also will be closed on Thanksgiving for the second straight year, per the New York Times. (More Target stories.)
