Isaiah Washington "can only apologize so many times" for the behavior that prompted his dismissal from ABC's hit series "Grey's Anatomy," the actor tells Entertainment Weekly in his first post-firing interview. But contrition evidently wasn't enough to save his job: The network couldn't justify the risk of keeping him on the show, the AP reports.

Washington says he "probably would not hesitate" if invited to make a guest appearance, but he sounds less positive about returning to ABC. Meanwhile, the AP reports, the brouhaha has revealed a rift between members of Hollywood's gay community, who applaud the move as a reality check, and members of the African-American community, who question the severity of the punishment.
