Sinbad's family has confirmed the 64-year-old recently suffered a stroke. The AP quotes the Adkins family as saying they shared the news "out of sincere love" for the comedian-actor, born David Adkins, and that "while he is beginning his road to recovery, we are faithful and optimistic that he will bring laughter into our hearts soon." The family asked for both privacy and "continued prayers for his healing." No further information was provided about the entertainer's health. Variety notes that Sinbad, known for his roles in A Different World and The Sinbad Show, most recently appeared in the Fox series Rel, which ran for one season over 2018 to 2019.
