Happy Hour Irks Korean Women

South Korean women are trying to put a lid on company-enforced binge drinking. As more women climb the corporate ladder, they're fighting back against the male-centric business culture that demands binging to get ahead, the New York Times reports. In a country where an estimated 90% of company events are alcohol-based and job interviews include questions on drinking, that's shaking things up.

Some companies are giving their employees red cards to hold up during drinking games if they want to stop. But others are adjusting more slowly. One woman sued after her boss told her: "Either you drink or you get it from me tomorrow." In a landmark decision this May, the Seoul High Court ruled in her favor, making it illegal to force a subordinate to drink.  (More South Korea stories.)
