No one's able to go much of anywhere at the moment, but one day, when the pandemic is over, you may be on the hunt for the best place to settle down and have kids. Travel and family journalism website Asher & Lyric did the legwork for us, sifting through statistics from dozens of international sources to compile its "Raising a Family Index." The site looked at 35 Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development nations, examining dozens of metrics in six key categories: safety, happiness, cost, health, education, and time, which looked at such factors as how many hours workers put in and annual leave. One sobering stat: The United States ranks second from last on the list, with that last slot belonging to Mexico. The top and bottom finishers:

  1. Iceland
  2. Norway
  3. Sweden
  4. Finland
  5. Luxembourg
  6. Denmark
  7. Germany
  8. Austria
  9. Belgium
  10. Czech Republic
Read on for countries that may not be the best for family life.

  1. Israel
  2. Slovak Republic
  3. South Korea
  4. Greece
  5. Romania
  6. Bulgaria
  7. Turkey
  8. Chile
  9. United States
  10. Mexico
