A babysitter was taking selfies with a gun on Tuesday when she accidentally shot her 10-year-old nephew in the stomach, according to authorities in Texas. The boy was being watched by the 19-year-old at an apartment in Houston and was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, per CNN, which notes his condition is now stable following surgery. Caitlyn Smith had found the gun at the apartment and begun posing with it, believing it was unloaded, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, which has laid a charge of injury to a child causing serious bodily injury, a second-degree felony, per KTRK. Senior Deputy Thomas Gilliland tells CNN that "taking selfies was not the best thing to be doing." After all, "firearms are dangerous weapons." (More shooting stories.)
