William Miller, 17, was in a pickup truck trying to leave the campus of a Florida high school when, amid an argument with a school resource officer and a school discipline assistant, the officer—a deputy with the Pasco County Sheriff's Office—threatened to shoot the teen. Miller's mom, Nedra Miller, has since obtained bodycam footage of the Dec. 17 incident and posted it to Facebook, where it has gone viral, the Tampa Bay Times reports. "You're gonna get shot you come another f---ing foot closer to me," the deputy says as William attempts to get around the officer and the discipline assistant, who were blocking the exit to the student parking lot. "You run into me, you'll get f---ing shot." Nedra Miller says she told the school in advance her son had an orthodontist appointment that day, but the deputy and the school worker insisted he was truant.

He eventually went back to the school but was suspended until Jan. 9, then expelled and sent to an alternative school for students with discipline issues; he's also been barred from events at his old school. Nedra Miller says her son didn't want to interrupt her at work as she'd already given the OK for him to leave. Per the Washington Post, William promised to return with an excuse note. The adults in the video accuse William of cursing and calling the discipline assistant, who's white, the n-word (she herself uses it in the clip, prompting William to call her racist). William isn't heard using any profanity and denies it. The district isn't investigating the incident; the sheriff's office is carrying out an internal investigation, but the deputy is still assigned to the school as there was no criminal complaint. The Millers are appealing William's punishment and want the adults held accountable. (More Florida stories.)
