Maryland police are seeking a person who allegedly enticed seagulls with pre-popped popcorn and brutally ran them over, CNN reports. Responding to an animal-cruelty report, police showed up at a Laurel shopping center and found at least 10 dead birds. "Through investigation, officers learned that a subject purchased a bag of pre-popped popcorn from the Dollar Tree," the Laurel Police Dept. says on Facebook. "That subject then emptied the bag of popcorn in the parking lot intentionally luring the group seagulls." A city spokeswoman is asking the public for help in finding "the suspect behind this senseless act of animal cruelty," per the Washington Post. Seems seagulls are known to scavenge in the area and are sometimes considered pests. (More animal cruelty stories.)
