Zac Efron may have taken method acting a bit too far. Last month, Efron talked to Variety about his new reality-TV series, Killing Zac Efron, set to air on the Quibi short-form-content platform after it launches in April, noting, "I tend to thrive under extreme circumstances." It's not clear yet how exactly he fared within the context of the show itself, but in real life, those extreme circumstances "off the grid" temporarily took the 32-year-old actor out of commission. Australian media cited by the Guardian say Efron got a bacterial infection—possibly typhoid—while shooting the series in Papua New Guinea and had to be evacuated to Australia for medical attention.

While a rep from Australia's Medical Rescue organization would only confirm to the Daily Telegraph that the group "retrieved a US citizen in his 30s from PNG to Brisbane recently for medical attention," Efron himself seemed to verify much of the report, including that he flew home to Los Angeles on Christmas Eve. "I did get sick in Papua New Guinea but I bounced back quick and finished an amazing 3 weeks in P.N.G.," he wrote on social media, posting a photo of him in Papua New Guinea. "I'm home for the holidays with my friends and family." He also thanked fans for their "love and concern," promising: "See you in 2020!" (More Zac Efron stories.)
