President Trump warned Democrats on Friday that they're making a mockery of the impeachment process and will come to regret it. "Someday there will be a Democrat president and there will be a Republican House, and I suspect they're going to remember it," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, per CBS News. He spoke after the House Judiciary Committee sent two articles of impeachment to the full House in party-line votes. "It's a scam ... and you're trivializing impeachment," said Trump. He added: "It’s a very sad thing for our country, but it seems to be very good for me politically."

Top Republicans agreed with Trump's assessment, with Rep. Doug Collins, the ranking GOP member on the judiciary panel, accusing Democrats of "abuse of power," the same charge leveled against Trump in one of the articles of impeachment. Democrat Steny Hoyer, the House majority leader, however, called Friday a "solemn and somber day for our country" given the allegations, per the Washington Post. Still up in the air is how long a Senate trial would last, assuming the House votes to impeach next week. Trump sounded ambivalent about that. "I'll do long or short," he said. "I'll do whatever they want to do, it doesn't matter." (More Trump impeachment stories.)
