If George and Kellyanne Conway have a tough time keeping politics out of their marriage, this won't help. The husband of the top Trump adviser was providing analysis of the impeachment hearing on MSNBC Wednesday. It's "quite the coup" for the network, notes Mediaite, given that George Conway is a high-profile Trump critic but one who rarely appears on TV. In fact, this is his first time as a television commenter since Trump took office, notes the Hill. And on Wednesday, he wasn't holding back.
Trump was "using the power of the presidency in its most unchecked area, foreign affairs, to advance his own personal interest as opposed to the country's," said Conway in regard to the allegations against him. But the conservative lawyer also went after Trump's Republican defenders. "Take that Republican hat off and look at it neutrally," he said. "Look at what you would have done if Donald Trump were a Democrat. Would you be making these ridiculous arguments about process?" To emphasize the point, he added, "If Barack Obama had done this, they'd be out for blood, and they'd be right." (More Trump impeachment stories.)
