Jane Fonda has spent the past four Fridays getting arrested in the nation's capital, as per her plan, but this time around, she faced a more serious consequence. The 81-year-old actress has been protesting climate change on Capitol Hill, inspired by Swedish teen activist Greta Thunberg, and her first three interactions with cops resulted in detentions that ended after a few hours at most. That changed Friday, ABC News reports: Fonda spent the night in jail. Her group, Fire Drill Fridays, says Fonda is set to appear in US District Court Saturday morning. This fourth protest—which also saw actresses Rosanna Arquette and Catherine Keener get arrested—put the focus on women's involvement in the cause.

"Climate change is a women's issue," Fire Drill Fridays said in a statement. "While the climate crisis threatens everyone, it especially impacts vulnerable populations, including women and girls." As for critics who eye-roll at her involvement, accusing her of just wanting the spotlight on herself, Fonda doesn't care. "The best way to attack a celebrity is to say, 'Here she is doing it for their own glory or promotion or whatever,'" she told FOX 5 before getting hauled off to jail. "Those people don't matter. ... Good people know. I could be doing a lot of other things besides getting out there." A night in custody doesn't bother her, either. "It's not the first time I've spent the night in jail," she noted. She added: "I think I may be in jail for my 82nd birthday," which takes place on a Saturday next month. (More Jane Fonda stories.)
